After about ten days in Nairobi, I travelled back to Mara yesterday and started my game drives with my new guests today. It was a particularly nice start, with Olive and her cub Bahati on a Wildebeest kill. In the evening light, as Bahati sat beautifully on a tree, Olive was eating, the sun went down, and a male Lion approached from a distance. It was clear he had seen the kill and was going straight for Olive. She didn’t notice him until he was on top of her. Our hearts stopped as Olive hissed and leaped away and the Lion growled. He took the kill of course, and Olive escaped to safety on a nearby tree. We watched her lick her paws in the last fading sunset light. Meanwhile the migration has reached and crossed the Mara heading into the Triangle in various points in the past week, with massive crossings at the location known as Cul de Sac.
