This morning we found the young Caracal before dawn, as we drove to where we had left him last time. He was a good distance away and still on his own. We can’t know for sure what happens at night, but my feeling is that the mother hasn’t come back at all for more than seven days now. The fact that he moved from where she left him could mean that he is starting to find his own place in the world. We left him to walk away in the tall grass without disturbing him any further, and I can’t help but wonder if I’ll ever see him or his mother again. This Giraffe keeps her eyes fixed on a sleeping Lion as a full rainbow crosses the sky just before sundown.
