The highlight of these two days in Amboseli was certainly this long fight among two Elephant bulls. This was definitely not a game or a simple sparring duel. It was a real fight among two Elephants in their prime, both not willing to concede to the other. These kind of situations are generally settled through fights which can last hours, although are rarely fatal for any of the contendents. In this instance, the fighting started soon after sunrise and went on until mid morning, when one of the bulls finally decided to run away, chased by the winner. In between, long periods when the Elephants would stand staring at each other, spraying dust repeatedly on themselves, moving their trunks nervously, waving their ears. Or they would walk parallel measuring each other’s size and strength. At intervals, the two would engage in the real fight, entangling their trunks, pushing each other and raising clouds of dust.
