The Great Wildebeest Migration has unexpectedly already reached the Mara. Herds have been seen crossing the Sand River into the Masai Mara on the eastern side of the reserve. In the northern section of the Mara a few small herds are crossing the long grass plains, and the Ol Kiombo pride of Lions made the most out of it, killing three adults and a youngster. It was also great to find seven cubs of the Ol Kiombo pride in excellent shape, with full bellies and willing to play. Every year it is a great thrill to hear the grunts of the Wildebeests again. This year they are very early, especially considering how much it has rained even in Tanzania. The Mara River is full of raging waters, the cats are waiting, the plains are full of grass. The stage is set for a great season to come!
