After a couple of days break in Nairobi I started another safari, this time heading to Amboseli NP. I haven’t been there since March, when the huge herds of Elephants were enjoying the lush vegetation after the rains. I was extremely pleased to find the park still with a lot of grass and to find many big groups of Elephants in and around the swamps. The weather was not very kind and the sun only shone for a few minutes at sunrise before it disappeared among the clouds. After the drought of last year many Zebras and Wildebeests died. The population has drastically reduced compared to before the drought, but I was relieved to see some healthy groups of both Zebras and Wildebeests. These are the strongest animals, the ones that survived the terrible drought and are therefore carrying the best genes for the future of their species.
