This was my last day in the Mara for 2010. I’ll be in Italy in December and in Lake Turkana around Christmas. The Mara wished me goodbye with a real amazing day, starting with the female Leopard we had watched the day before yesterday with a kill forced up on the topmost branches of a tree with two Lionesses eating the remains of her kill at the bottom. The kill had probably fallen down during the night, but I am sure she had a good feed out of it for the past couple of days. She didn’t seem particularly concerned, she just kept them in sight until they finished and walked away. Only at that point she descended and disappeared. On we found two more groups of Lions, the Double Crossing pride and the Rhino Ridge pride, and the young Leopard Ngayoni walking beautifully across the plains. He is looking healthy and well fed, which means he is able to get good meals regularly despite being independent from her mother Olive at an early age. In the evening, an amazing display of colors, rays of light through clouds and golden plains filled my eyes at sunset.
