Another day of migration on the Talek river, with a new development in the Lions’ society of the Mara. At sunrise we found three male Lions on the banks of the river, with a dead Wildebeest in the river bed, completely untouched. Quite surprisingly the males are three of the coalition of six that is roaming most of the north-western Mara. The Ol Kiombo males shifted east towards the centre of the park, leaving the Talek river largely unguarded. These males have taken the chance to enter in full force in their territory. It will be interesting to see if this is just a momentary incursion or a permanent take over. Wildebeests crossed in huge numbers throughout the day, many more are still to cross in the coming days. Meanwhile, more herds are entering the Mara at Sand River and heading towards Survey hill.
