On my way out of the Mara to Nairobi I drove along the Talek river and found proof of a very interesting development. The male Lion Notch and two of his sons are mating with three females right in the heart of the Ol Kiombo pride’s territory. It finally seems that these extraordinary coalition of six males has extended its dominion on the Talek river, thereby covering most of the central and northwest sections of the reserve. It is now rare to see a male in this range that is not part of the gang. I’ll be in Nairobi for about ten days for logistics and I’ll be back in Mara on July 19th.
