We went back to the Marsh and before we got there, on the plains just above the Bila Shaka Lugga, we found an interesting situation of Lions, one female and her four cubs with two young males, with a kill, surrounded by at least thirty Hyenas and five Jackals. The cubs had bellies full to explosion, they could barely walk, the males tried to keep the Hyenas away. The kill was a cow. Masai are bringing cattle in the park to graze on a nightly basis and accidents like this are the least that can happen. The north of the reserve has been completely grazed by the cows, but the Wildebeests are finding the short green grass fuelled by the recent rains extremely palatable. The Paradise plains on the contrary are really dry, with no grass at all. A quiet afternoon followed, with many groups of Lions guarding their kills under the shade. It is a time of plenty for the Lions.food.
