Today I finally travelled back to the Masai Mara after almost two months of absence. The trip to the US and renovation works in the house in Nairobi have kept me away from the field during this extremely heavy rainy season. The Mara is all green, beautiful sceneries, lush vegetations. It is still raining in spots, the rivers are still quite high, the Talek can only be crossed on the bridge. As I arrived and even before going to camp I stumbled upon a group of Lions from the Ol Kiombo pride. They have been staying around the Maji ya Fisi lugga inside the reserve, where there are plenty of Topis grazing. They were intent on watching a football game going on just outside of Fig Tree camp but aside from that they didn’t do anything until dark.
