Having heard that the Cheetah with two cubs did not succeed to hunt yesterday, we predicted she would be very hungry. After a nice sighting of the Rekero pride of Lions along the Olare Orok river at sunrise, including the chase of a solitary stray Wildebeests by two of the females, we went to look for the Cheetah. She was walking up and down slopes desperately looking for food, but there really wasn’t much with all this tall grass. She finally saw two Thompson’s Gazelles, chased them, but failed. The Masai cows forced her to retreat towards the hillside, where she rested until she saw a sizable herd of Impalas coming down to a salt lick. She positioned herself for the hunt. All seemed perfect, but I noticed that she kept looking to her left, until she ran back up the hill, making herself completely visible to the Impalas and Zebras. We could not understand at first, but then we saw a Lioness on the other bank, also coming to try to hunt the crossing Zebras. The Cheetah went to rest after a tiring day, scared and hungry. We returned to the Lions and had some nice moments at sunset. A very intense full day overall.
