This was an extraordinary day for us, possibly even better than yesterday. We found the serval mother soon after sunrise but she eluded us rapidly and disappeared in the long grass. After the Rekero pride feeding we caught up with the young Leopard Bahati, in a new area for her. She was walking along a gulley. We kept up with her until we saw a mother warthog with very tiny piglets. Bahati saw them also. She sneaked into the bushes and soon after we heard loud grunts and squeaks and all of a sudden Bahati climbed a tree with a piglet in her mouth.
We moved on to the crossings area. Big ones happened in the morning so most of the cars had gone. We had our lunch and quite out of nowhere a big group showed up heading to cul de sac crossing point. We moved into position and watched the wildebeests file in, gather on the beach and finally cross with only another vehicle, quite amazing these days. Later another huge group descended to main crossing and they went at around four in the afternoon. Huge clouds of dust and beautiful leaps in the water made for an extraordinary spectacle.
And to close our day we found a female leopard near the big rocks along the river. Nearby from the bushes the Guineafowls were screaming in alarm. We went there to investigate and of course her ten months old cub was there, walking along the edge of the bushes. He rested on a rock until shortly before sunset, then he disappeared. As all the other vehicles left I positioned the vehicle for an image I had been thinking about for a long time. The sky and the clouds took on beautiful warm sunset colors as we waited. The huge boulder emerging from the vegetation was in front of us. And it happened. The leopard walked on top of the highest rock, looked around at the landscape around him before descending into the darkness.
