And finally, no Amboseli trip can be complete without some good sightings of the majestic big tuskers that still inhabit this magnificent ecosystem. Just in from Nairobi on the first day we came across the gorgeous Primo. Year after year he is getting bigger and more majestic. Look forward to see how will he become as he gets older. Elephants’ tusks keep growing through their lives.
That same afternoon a super close encounter with the amazing Craig. He is the second biggest tusker here in Amboseli. He decided to cross the road just inches from our vehicle. It was absolutely breathtaking to have him so close, totally relaxed. Guests were so overcome with emotion that they put down the cameras and just watched him, taking in the sighting of hig magnificence.
We obviosuly went out of our way to look for Tim, the biggest tusker of all. We found him very very far from the park, wrapped in thick vegetation and reluctant to come out, despite spending the whole day with him. He drank at a waterhole surrounded by bushes. He is also not very happy to be approached when he is outside the park so we had to keep a good distance. We still managed to see him pull down a few branches from an Acacia Xantophlea.
Finally, one for the future. Easu on the dry lake, a young bull but with extraordinary tusks for his age. He promises to be one of the greats in another twenty years.
