After hearing reports of the migration entering the Mara, we decided to go to the area where the animals are actually entering the park, at the southern border, near Roan hill. As we approached the area we began to see some scattered herds of Zebras and Wildebeests. Across the Sand River, on the hills, we saw some more herds moving down towards the river, but in the late morning they hadn’t crossed yet. Some of the herds already in the Mara were strangely looking keen to cross back to the south, probably as a result of burned grasslands on the Tanzanian side. On the plains Lions and Leopards are certainly having a feast on the herds. The number of Wildebeests that have entered the Mara is still minimal compared to what hopefully will come in the following weeks. Some Giraffes on the open plains made a wonderful last sunset in the Mara for this trip. Tomorrow we’ll head to Nairobi and on to Amboseli to catch up with the Elephants down there, and I really can’t wait!
